“I couldn’t say no”

JaMychal Green has had the opportunity to make his first statements since his arrival at the Golden State Warriors was officially announced. The power forward has spoken about how his signing for the San Francisco team took place, which began at the moment when, in the middle of a vacation in a swimming pool in Jamaica, he answered an unknown number that called his mobile phone and the other side of the line was Steve Kerr.

“He told me that the Warriors were interested and that they wanted me to be part of the project,” he said. “After talking to him, I couldn’t say no. He really wanted to be a part of the organization and the team that they have built here.”

JaMychal also confessed that, after said call, he chose to contact Draymond Green, whom he has known since his time in high school to talk about the subject: “I was excited. We both know what each of us can bring to the table and we had a conversation about it. He made my decision to come even easier.”

The environment built on the Warriors in recent years seems to have been key in convincing Green, who made his admiration for the franchise clear as soon as he could. Both the titles achieved and the ambition of the project seemed to impress him, and in his statement he did not hold back when it came to expressing his joy at being part of the most successful team in recent years.

“When you’re here, you can’t relax or think you’ve got it all done. You are obliged to always work to try to be better, and that is an environment in which it suits me to be. I want to be surrounded by players who have won rings and know how to lead teams, and there are all kinds of players here. Steph, Klay, Draymond, even Iguodala as a leader… I’m looking forward to playing with them.
