Throughout the history of sport we have witnessed promises that did not end up consolidating in the elite, but very few of those cases end up in suicidethis time we will talk about a player of the National Football League (NFL) who made that decision for a tragic event.
The character in question is Aaron Hernandezathlete of Puerto Rican and Italian descent who was a figure in the Florida Gators before being recruited in 2010 by the New England Patriots; by that time he had already gone through the unfortunate death of his father.
He stood out as a tight end in a team led by the historic Tom Brady, he lost Super Bowl XLVI against the Giants, however, his performance was enough to sign a five-year extension for $40 million at just 23 years old.
However, he began to have serious off-court problems and one of them sent him to jail until his last days.
Why did Aaron Hernandez go to jail?
Aaron Hernandez was charged in the death of his friend Odin Lloydthe New England team immediately discharged him and he was sentenced to life in prison in 2015, in addition, throughout the process other serious accusations were made against him of which he was acquitted, although it is striking that they were all related to fights, violence and weapons.
In 2017 the player was found dead in his cellit is presumed that hanged with the sheets during the early morning and there are those who affirm that he had consumed harmful substances prior to suicide.
There are two versions that are handled on that case: the first is that Aaron believed that if he died, his wife and daughter would collect the contract with the Patriots when he was declared innocent by a law of that time; the second that a radio program broadcast his sexual orientation and he wasn’t comfortable with it.
What is a reality is that his family decided to send the athlete’s brain to a study where it was found that he had severe symptoms of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE)a disease that comes from constant blows to the head and that can cause aggressiveness, little control of emotions and depression.
Note: mental health is just as important as physical health, if you have problems go to a professional.
