Did Lewandowski need Bayern more than Bayern Lewandowski?
It was Bayern’s biggest fear in the summer. Super striker Robert Lewandowski (33) scores one goal after the other after his departure in Barcelona, while Bayern are without a real striker and are in the doldrums.
But now it’s the other way around: Bayern delivered two shooting matches in a row, the mega offensive around new signing Sadio Mané (30) broke Leipzig (5: 3) and Frankfurt (6: 1). Hardly anyone doubts that they will also shoot down Wolfsburg this afternoon. Longing for Lewandowski? nope…
The Pole, on the other hand, experienced a lot of frustration in his first competitive game for Barca: only 0-0 against Rayo Vallecano, false start for Lewy and his new Barca. Lewandowski’s goal show in Spain will have to wait.

The fact is: At Bayern, the style of play had been perfectly tailored to the super striker for years. Thomas Müller (32), Serge Gnabry (27) and Co provided templates on the assembly line, Lewy actually always scored. In Barcelona, the completely renewed team has to get used to the new goalscorer. Barca didn’t always have a very classic center forward like Lewandowski.
In Bayern, on the other hand, the Ohne-Lewy offensive is being celebrated: more flexibility, more difficult to calculate. Müller was already celebrating after the Frankfurt victory: “This skepticism, which was logically discussed regarding the offensive, we have now at least pushed it into the background with 11 goals against the cup winners and Euro League winners!” Trainer Julian Nagelsmann: “For it was also interesting for us to see how we could do it without Lewandowski. Bayern can do it without Lewandowski. But anyone who knows the ambitious Pole knows that it’s only a matter of time before he starts snapping in Barcelona too!
