Mali win AfroBasket U18 Women against Egypt

On Saturday in Madagascar, Mali regained the continental title by clearly dominating Egypt, reigning African champions, in the final of the AfroBasket U18 women’s (86-54).

Accustomed to titles in international youth competitions, Mali lifted its 8th trophy at the AfroBasket U18 this Saturday, the fourth in the last five competitions, beating Egypt in the 2022 final.

Named MVP of the competition, the Malian Maimouna Haïdara (1.81 m, 18 years old) dominated the debates in the final (22 points at 8/12 on shots, 12 rebounds, 4 assists, 5 interceptions for 37 evaluation in 33 minutes).

The player from Tenerife, Spain, is joined by Jana Elalfy (Egypt), Isabel Joao (Angola), Marion Rasolofoson (Madagascar) and Doua Yahiaoui (Algeria) in the best five of the competition.

“We have worked hard to get here. We lost to Egypt in 2020, so we had to prepare this group of players perfectly. Over the past eight months, we have invested tirelessly to live this moment and regain the continental title. Our next goal is to reach the World Tournament Final. », warns the coach of the Malian U18 selection Sory Diakite.

Angola took 3rd place by beating Madagascar in the small final (53-37).
