Decision expected today for the 3 LIV players wishing to temporarily lift their suspension

The three players who filed an appeal in order to be able to play the Fedex Cup Playoffs, Talor Gooch, Hudson Swafford and Matt Jones, will be fixed in a few hours.

Among the 11 players who filed a complaint against the PGA Tour whom they accuse of violating antitrust laws, three players have submitted an urgent request for the temporary lifting of their sanction in order to line up at the start of the tournaments of the FedEx Cup Playoffs for which they are mathematically qualified, starting with that of Memphis this Thursday.

This legal stay will be argued on Tuesday afternoon in California and it is up to the United States District Court Judge for the Northern District of California, Beth Labson Freeman, that will be the final decision. But the PGA Tour is determined to prevent the 3 “rebels” from taking part in these elimination events.

It would harm all Tour members who play by the rules

In a motion filed in court, circuit attorneys denied the injunction request, saying it is “without legal basis”: “Despite knowing full well they were breaking PGA Tour rules and risking suspension, the complainants joined the competing golf league LIFE Golf, which paid them tens and hundreds of millions of dollars from Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund to make up for the shortfall. »

After the court ruling in favor of Ian Poulter, Adrian Otaegui and Justin Harding ahead of the Scottish Open, Talor Gooch, Hudson Swafford et Matt Jones hope that the American magistrates show themselves just as lenient. But the defense does not hear it that way. At the PGA Tour, it is believed that such a decision ” would harm all Tour members who play by the rules. »

According to the lawyers of the PGA Tour, the three players are trying to give their situation an “urgent” character while the contracts signed with the competing entity gives them more than enough to compensate for the financial loss linked to the suspension.
