Baseball: Yu Darvish earns his 10th win and the Padres make headlines with a trade.

San Diego Padres ace Yu Darvish recorded his 10th win of the year in a 13-5 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday, hitting the benchmark for the first time since 2017.

The Padres won Game 1 of the doubleheader at Petco Park after an eight-player blockbuster at the trade deadline that brought stars Juan Soto and Josh Bell to San Diego.

Darvish (10-4) struck out seven in six innings, while allowing three runs on six hits and two walks. He had significant offensive support from San Diego who had two two-homer homers and 19 total strikes.

The 35-year-old right-hander was happy to post double-digit wins after the headline-grabbing trade, raising postseason expectations for the Padres 59-46.

“I’m really happy (with this win), it gives me confidence,” Darvish said. “I tried not to worry about (the exchange) as much as possible, because my job is to throw.”

Considered one of the best players in the game, 23-year-old outfielder Soto has become MLB’s hottest trade target after turning down a new contract from the Washington Nationals.

The Los Angeles Angels retained Shohei Ohtani at the trade deadline, after rejecting multiple offers in previous days for the two-way superstar, who will become a free agent after the 2023 season.
