Jans optimistic about Twente’s chances in Conference League: ‘See us as a favourite’ | NOW

FC Twente coach Ron Jans considers his own team the favorite in the match against Serbian FK Cukaricki. The two teams will face each other in the third qualifying round of the Conference League on Thursday in Belgrade.

“We have seen the opponent play several times and we have gathered a lot of information. It is a serious opponent and I am curious how high their level can reach,” Jans told Wednesday. Tubantia in the run-up to the race.

“We do not expect that they will be able to surprise us,” continues Jans. “Hopefully my own team can surprise me, in a positive way.”

FK Cukaricki finished third in Serbia last season, behind champions Red Star and number two FK Partizan. “European football is always special. I see this as a project to progress, for the club and the players,” says Jans.

After the injured midfielder Wout Brama, striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel is the player with the most European matches at FC Twente. “We were really looking forward to this and everyone is very motivated,” says Van Wolfswinkel. “European football always brings a different atmosphere.”

The match in the third preliminary round of the Conference League between FK Cukaricki and FC Twente starts on Thursday at 8 p.m. in the Partizan Stadium. The return in Enschede is on August 11. If Twente succeeds in eliminating FK Cukaricki, it will meet Fiorentina in the play-offs.
