European Championship Women
Germany will be the opponent of England in a dream final. The German women have set France aside in their semi-final thanks to two goals from captain and top scorer Alexandra Popp. The showdown will take place on Sunday in the mythical Wembley.
A team that has not yet conceded a goal against a team that decorated almost 80 chances at this European Championship. The semi-final between Germany and France had all the ingredients to deliver a spectacle.
The French women started the match with the highest stakes. The Germans were already facing hotter fires and quickly defused any possibility.
With a wonderful free kick, Germany formulated an answer, but the goalkeeper prevented the opening goal. That followed just before half time: Popp appeared in front of her defender and controlled her 5th goal against the ropes.
No problem for the German women, until Diani conjured a bolt out of her foot in a clear sky. Goalkeeper Frohms unfortunately got the ball through the post on her back, so that the goal was credited to her.
Germany seemed upset and played football after the break. France piled up the chances, but forgot to finish them.
And then Alexandra Popp thought it was time to teach a lesson in efficiency. She attacked a high cross with her head, hitting the leather untenably against the ropes. The 6th goal of the German top scorer this European Championship: good for a ticket to Wembley.
