The cult classic starring Tom Hanks is being remastered—as a series! Trailer for “A League Of Their Own” – Series News

In August, “A League Of Their Own” starts on Amazon Prime Video. The series is based on the feel-good movie A Class of Its Own, which chronicled the founding of a women’s baseball league in America in the 1940s. Here’s the first trailer:

In 1992, a dramedy loosely based on actual events made its debut in cinemas with “A Class of Its Own”. The film tells of the difficult beginnings of professional women’s baseball in the USA during the Second World War in an emotionally touching and amusing way. The cast list at the time included stars like Tom Hanks, Geena Davis, Madonna and Bill Pullman.

Now comes a revival in the form of a series for Amazon Prime Video with “A League Of Their Own” (that was the original English language title of the template). The creators of the series are Will Graham (“Mozart In The Jungle”) and Abbi Jacobson (“Broad City”). The first of eight episodes of Season 1 was directed by Only Murders In The Building and Silicon Valley director Jamie Babbit.

The whole thing will obviously not be a classic remake, but according to the creative minds behind it will offer completely new characters and a “fresh approach”. The plot should not only be about misogyny, but also about the racism and homophobia of the time, but still offer a lot of humor and some romance.
