Sebastian Baez (34th in the world ranking) qualified for the quarterfinals of the Bastad ATP 250 after beating the Spanish Alexander Davidovich Fokina (36th) by 6-2 and 6-3. The contest that takes place in Sweden, on brick dust, distributes 597,900 euros in prizes.
The Argentine tennis player struggled for just under an hour and a half to give a new pass in the competition, where he had debuted with a victory over the Italian Fabio Fognini (64th) by 6-3 and 6-4. His next rival will be the Austrian Dominic Thiem (339º), with whom he has no records.
The one who could not continue in the contest is Federico Coria (65th), eliminated in the round of 16 at the hands of the Russian Andrey Rublev (8th) for a fought 7-5, 4-6 and 7-6 (2). The man from Rosario had appeared at the ATP 250 in Bastad with a victory against his compatriot Federico Delbonis (84th) by 0-6, 6-4 and 6-4.
There are two other Argentines in the Bastad ATP 250
Diego Schwartzman (14th) will be measured in a duel corresponding to the quarterfinals with the Spanish Pablo Carreno Busta (18th). The remainder is Francisco Cerundolo (39th), who comes from giving the blow by eliminating the Norwegian Casper Ruud (5th) -maximum favourite- and his next rival will be the Russian Aslan Karatsev (40º).
