Signed by the Magic, Caleb Houstan equals a record

Unsurprisingly, the most Floridian of the Canadians will start his NBA career with the Magic. Indeed, HoopsHype announces that Caleb Houstan signed up for four years, and $8.2 million, with the Florida franchise. The first two years will be guaranteed, unlike the third, while the fourth will be a “team option”.

It should be noted above all that this is a record contract for a player drafted in the second round, since the 32nd choice of the last Draft equals that won a few days earlier by Jaylin Williams with the Thunder.

Only 19 years old, Caleb Houstan is coming off a disappointing season averaging 10.1 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.4 assists (38% on shots and 36% at 3-pts) in the NCAA. He played on the side of the University of Michigan, where he notably rubbed shoulders with the Frenchman Moussa Diabaté.

Barred by Franz Wagner, Jonathan Isaac, Terrence Ross, RJ Hampton or even Chuma Okeke on the outside lines of Orlando, the native of Ontario will probably start by making his ranges in the G-League. To the summer league of Las Vegas, he is currently averaging 10.7 points and 4.3 rebounds (38% on shots and 32% at 3-pts).
