It’s a first setback for the rookie when his NBA career hasn’t even really started yet. Obviously not ideal when trying to gradually acclimatize to the Great League, the Summer League representing an important step for these youngsters who are getting into the deep end. If Shaedon Sharpe’s talent is undeniable, at some point you will still have to play basketball games under penalty of being the victim of a big thermal shock once in the big ones. The next deadline where we could see him is during training camp and the preseason from the end of September to mid-October. It’s a bit far though. Hopefully that injury is completely behind him by then and he can best prepare for his official NBA debut. In the meantime, Sharpe will have to take his troubles patiently, and the first duels he was able to have with Damian Lillard in training will now give way to appropriate treatment and rest. The Blazers are obviously not going to take any risks with their youngster, who is not about to remove the “mystery player” label that is firmly stuck on his forehead today.
The 19-year-old Canadian will therefore not play more than six minutes in the Summer League, all this after a season without playing a single game in Kentucky.
