David Faitelson: “Guatemala does not exist football-wise”

The Guatemalan soccer team reached the semifinals of the Concacaf Under-20 World Cup a few weeks ago and with that they obtained their ticket to the World Cup in the category, to be played in Indonesia 2023. The Guatemalan team beat Mexico in the Quarterfinals at the end of June and gave the surprise when many considered them defeated.

The failure for the Mexican U-20 team continues to cause echo and annoyance in the soccer union, since recently the Mexican journalist David Faitelson assured that Guatemala does not exist in terms of soccer. His words have generated great controversy not only in Guatemala, but in Central America.

“The men’s team was a shame against Guatemala (U-20). Who is Guatemala? Guatemala does not exist soccer-wise,” Faitelson said during the broadcast of ESPN’s Fútbol Picante program.

Guatemala will play its second U-20 World Cup

Rafael Loredo, strategist for the Guatemalan U-20 National Team, was the architect of his team’s qualification for the World Cup in the category. Guatemala already knows what it’s like to play this competition, because the first time they achieved it was in the 2011 Colombia edition, managing to reach the round of 16.
