Roger Federer disappears from ATP ranking after a full year without tennis, Djokovic drops to place 7 | Tennis

Stop looking for Roger Federer’s name in the ATP rankings. After a year without tennis, the 40-year-old Swiss has disappeared from the ranking for the first time in 25 years. Until the start of Wimbledon, he was still classified 97th.

The ATP ranking is based on the results of the past 52 weeks. The accumulated points in the tournaments played remain valid for 1 year and then expire again.

Federer played his last game in the quarter-finals at Wimbledon last year. He then lost in 3 sets to the Pole Hubert Hurkacz. He was then operated on his knee for the 3rd time in a year and a half. The Swiss is currently still working on his comeback and hopes to participate in the Laver Cup in London at the end of September.

Due to his long absence, Federer is no longer on the most recently published ATP ranking. Roger Federer entered the rankings on September 22, 1997, when he was 16 years old. He was 803rd in the world at the time.

Federer hopes to make a full comeback on the ATP circuit next year.

Wimbledon winner Djokovic drops to 7th place

It is also striking that Wimbledon winner Novak Djokovic has to give up quite a few places in the ATP ranking. That comes after the ATP (and also the WTA) decided not to hand out points at Wimbledon.

This measure came after the grass tournament announced that Russian and Belarusian players are not welcome due to the war in Ukraine. For example, the current number 1 in the world Daniil Medvedev was missing.

Djokovic sees Nadal, Tsitsipas, Ruud and Alcaraz rise in the ATP ranking due to his relapse. Daniil Medvedev is and will remain the number 1 in the world after Wimbledon.

David Goffin – who made it to the quarter-finals at Wimbledon – even loses 13 places and is now only 71st. Elise Mertens has risen one place to number 30 on the WTA ranking.
