Novak Djokovic’s trainer Goran Ivanisevic shoots at critics: Djoker not the poster boy of the opponents of vaccination

Ivanisevic, speaking to the Croatian sports website gol.dnevnik.hr. from: “He doesn’t want to be vaccinated, he doesn’t want to let the vaccination into his body, he doesn’t tell anyone not to get vaccinated. I respect his decision.”

With a view to the infections of some players at the past Grand Slam tournaments, the Croatian said: “People got infected in Australia, at Roland Garros and Wimbledon and nothing happened to anyone. There are so many contradictions. I am vaccinated, it wasn’t a problem for me.”

Ivanisevic continues: “We’ve been terrorized for two and a half years now. If you’re infected, it’s like having scabies. They throw you and the whole team out. We were in the pillory.”

Djokovic is at risk of being excluded from the US Open (August 29 to September 11) due to his vaccination status. According to current regulations, only vaccinated people are allowed to enter the United States.

Ivanisevic jokes about US Open participation

Something similar happened to the Wimbledon winner in January before the Australian Open, when he had to leave Melbourne again after days of back and forth and was therefore not allowed to take part in the tournament.
Ivanisevic does not have much hope that the USA will change their specifications before the start of the US Open. “I don’t know about the US Open, it’s difficult. I’m more optimistic that I’ll play the ATP tournament in Umag (the venue of the Croatia Open, Anm. d. Red.) win than let him start,” joked the 50-year-old.

Last year Djokovic reached the final at the US Open. In the final, however, Daniil Medvedev had to admit defeat in three sets.
