Manuel Lombardo brings the Italian anthem to the Zagreb Grand Prix 2022

In this past weekend there have been three events: the Grand Prix of Zagreb, Croatia, the European Cup in Winterthur for seniors in Switzerland and Hungary, in Paks, and the European Cup for juniors.

Zagreb Grand Prix

Results

Italy has conquered a gold medal con Manuel Lombardo (-73 kg) e a silver medal con Matteo Piras (-66 kg).

Manuel Lombardo (-73 kg) won his first gold medal in his new category -73 kg. He won the first round against Ylham Kemalov (Tkm), the second against Adrian Sulca (Rou), the third round against Jack Yonezuka (USA), the quarter-finals against Abdul Malik Umayev (Bel), the semifinal against Daniel Cargnin (Bra ) and the final against Magdiel Estrada (Cub) in just 12 seconds with one of his sensational kata-guruma (as seen in the cover photo), thus conquering the highest step of the podium and winning important points for the Olympic qualification.

Matteo Piras (-66 kg), after the silver medal won two weeks ago at the Mediterranean Games, is reconfirmed at the top with another silver medal. He won the first round against Hekim Agamammedov (Tkm), the second against Orlando Cazorla (Fra), the third against Alberto Gaitero Martin (Esp), the quarter-finals against Jaehong An (Kor) and the semifinal against Lucian Bors Dumitrescu (Rou ), while in the final he lost to Yashar Najafov (Aze), gaining an excellent second place.

They lost in the third round: Veronica Toniolo (-57 kg), Kenny Komi Bedel (-81 kg).
