Legion Baseball: Five outs after two no-hitters West Fargo goes for Game 2 split instead – Reuters

WEST FARGO — West Fargo was five outs from being strokeless on both ends of a Legion double against Fargo Post 2 on Friday.

Instead, the Patriots rallied in the last two innings to go out 2-3-2 in Game 2 at Young Field.

Post-2 starter Elias Harris was outstanding in Game 1, going all seven innings and batting out seven in a 2-0 win.

In Game 1, Post 2 went 1-0 in the first inning as Connor Holm scored a single, Jordan Leininger walked and Tommy Simon walked on purpose to attack the bases. Landon Meier centered a sacrificial fly and then hit Holm.

Fourth, Post 2’s Will Bachman threw a solo home run to the left to make it 2-0. It was a lot of racing support for Harris. West Fargo pitcher Casey Clemenson suffered a tough loss, hitting seven runs and allowing two runs from four hits.

In Game 2, post-2 starter Dylan Erholtz seemed to be able to match Harris’ feat, allowing no hits for 5-1/3 innings.

Post 2’s Bachman scored the first point of the game from a Patriots error in the second, and in the fifth Danny Boutain tripled and gave Simon’s sacrificial fly a 2-0 lead.

But with an out in the sixth, West Fargo’s Konnor Entz broke the no-hitter with a right-handed single. He moved up to third on a failed early takedown attempt.

The Patriots’ Trey Stocker followed with a single down the middle to put West Fargo on the board. Griffen Staahl and Clemenson hit back-to-back singles to reload bases, but Erholtz earned a strikeout to end the threat.

At the end of the seventh, West Fargo’s Caleb Duerr scored a single and Peyton Jantzi was hit by a throw. Seth Wiggestrand’s self-sacrificing bunt moved both runners up a base, and with an out, Brennan Haman blooped a flat left ball that narrowly escaped the diving outfielder’s glove. Duerr and Jantzi both scored to end the game.
