Lega Basket Serie A – Openjobmetis Varese, Paolo Galbiati joins the technical staff

Varese Basketball is pleased to announce the successful engagement of Paolo Galbiati who will join the red and white technical staff from next season. Galbiati is a young coach (born in ’84) but he already has many years of experience in Serie A as head coach (Turin and Cremona) as well as playing the role of assistant of the national team from 2021 with which he gained access to the Olympics Tokyo.

Career

Paolo Galbiati was born in Vimercate on February 20, 1984. He plays in the minors up to 23 years old but then begins to coach starting from the youth teams. First Robbiate, then Bernareggio, experiences that lead him, in 2010, to the staff of Olimpia Milano with which he won the Under 17 championship in 2013. In the 2015-2016 season he returned to Bernareggio where he coached the First Team, but the following year arrives in Serie A joining Turin as assistant coach first of Luca Banchi and then of Carlo Recalcati. On 5 February 2018 he was appointed head coach of Auxilium and after just two weeks he won the Italian Cup in the final against Cremona. The following season he remained in the Piedmontese capital alongside Larry Brown only to take over the reins of the team at the end of December after the American coach’s exoneration. After an experience in Biella terminated early due to Covid, in 2020 he arrives in Cremona, a team he leads until 2022. On March 5, 2021 he is appointed assistant of the Italian national team of coach Sacchetti, contributing to a historic result such as the arrival at the Games Tokyo Olympics, obtained thanks to the victory of the Pre Olympic Tournament in Belgrade in the final against Serbia. Last June he was also confirmed in the blue staff by the new technical commissioner Gianmarco Pozzecco.
