The Laver Cup is bursting with tennis celebrities this year. As the organizers announced on Friday morning, Novak Djokovic will also play for Team Europe this year. This means that the big four of the past few years will be back together on the pitch. In addition to Djokovic, there are Andy Murray, Rafael Nadal and the Swiss superstar Roger Federer.
Djokovic says: «I am extremely happy to be able to play again for Team Europe at the Laver Cup. It’s the only competition where you play in a team with people who normally face you and to join Rafa, Roger and Andy – three of my biggest competitors – will be a truly unique moment in the history of our sport.”
Since Wimbledon in 2003, the four tennis superstars have won 66 out of a possible 76 Grand Slams. It is still unclear who will play with whom in doubles. Federer and Djokovic in action together? For many tennis fans that would be the absolute crowning glory. The tournament will take place between September 23rd and 25th at the O2 Arena in London. So far there have been three confirmed athletes from Team Welt. These are: Taylor Fritz (ATP 13), Félix Auger-Aliassime (ATP 9) and Diego Schwartzman (ATP 14).
