During the HSV bankruptcy against Hansa Rostock on Sunday, Hamburg supporters hung a homophobic banner. Ironically, under the banner in memory of HSV icon Uwe Seeler († 85).

The club reacted immediately, publishing a statement on the scandal on Twitter. In it, HSV wrote: “A homophobic banner was shown on our north stand during the game today. We clearly distance ourselves from discriminatory content. Discrimination has no place in the Volksparkstadion and at HSV! Our diamond stands for variety and diversity.”

Otherwise, it was a goosebumps farewell for Hamburg’s soccer legend Seeler, who died on Thursday, even if the result – HSV lost 0-1 to Rostock – bothered.

With devotion and sympathy, a dress code was agreed among the stadium visitors based on fan projects: all in black! The players showed up from 12.45 p.m. to warm up in black shirts with a photo of the jubilant Seeler on the chest and his number 9 on the back. The entire bench also wore the shirt during the game.
