The Chinese remained stuck in the cockpit for long minutes. According to information from the medical department at Silverstone, Guanyu Zhou was moving before being removed from his Alfa Romeo. Placed on a stretcher, the Chinese pilot was evacuated to the medical center.

His teammate Valtteri Bottas received radio reports confirming that Zhou was fine. Involved in the big pileup, the Thai Alexander Albon also went to the hospital. According to the International Automobile Federation (FIA), the two pilots “were checked at the medical center” and have “no serious injuries”. Zhou is currently under observation while Albon “will be transferred by helicopter to Coventry Hospital for precautionary examinations”.

Zhou gave good news himself on Twitter a few minutes later. “It’s fine, the halo saved my life,” he explains.
