University of Extremadura Dominates Spanish University Archery Championship

On the morning of Saturday, April 27, the Spanish University Archery Championship was held, organized by the University of Huelva. After several years without attending this discipline, the return of the University of Extremadura could not have been more successful: gold medals in the women’s and men’s categories and a bronze medal for teams.

Laura Rubio Cendán, Veterinary Medicine student, and José Luis Patiño Barraso, enrolled in Primary Education, have been proclaimed Champions of Spain, being clear dominators of their tests from the beginning of the runs. In the team competition, there was a lot of equality until the end. Due to the points obtained individually, UEx was exempt in the first round and faced the hosts in the semifinals. Good start from Extremadura, a comeback and a draw from Huelva and the Andalusians went to the final. The fight for bronze remained and this time the tiebreaker did smile at the UEx, which took the bronze, with a very good contribution from Ana Vinagre Díaz, a Nursing student and third member of the UEx team, at the head of which done an excellent job, as Head of Delegation, the SAFYDE Technician Miguel Ángel Encinas García.

From the Physical and Sports Activities Service, new thanks are made to the Youth and Sports Foundation and the General Directorate of Sports of the Junta de Extremadura, as their support is essential so that the University of Extremadura can be present in the Spanish Championships. Finally, special mention goes to the University of Huelva for its impeccable organization of the competition.
