He stood on the sidelines while the FC Bayern team trained on the grass in the large arena to open the new season on Saturday afternoon and the audience heard whispers and cheers. Elber, 49, was a striker in Munich from 1997 to 2003, Champions League winner in 2001, scored 139 times in 266 games; once the Brazilian rolled into a FC Bayern carpet that was near the corner flag after a goal in the cold Olympic Stadium.
