Compostela Pilgrimage – La Rioja media

The Association of Pilgrims of Lord Santiago de Galicia of Calahorra has carried out the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela scheduled for this Holy Year 2022. The group made up of 39 members and partners undertook the Portuguese Way from the city of Tui last July 10, concluding in Compostela on the 15th of the same month.

From the beginning of the pilgrimage, the illusion and enthusiasm of the group to reach Compostela was notorious and in which, neither the high temperatures due to the heat wave nor the fatigue derived from walking made a dent. Traveling daily distances from 13 to about 25 kilometers, the pilgrims dressed in the Association’s shirts arrived at the Plaza del Obradoiro carrying the flags of Calahorra and La Rioja while singing the Association’s anthem. Excited and with the satisfaction of having reached the goal, the group attended the Pilgrim’s Mass at noon and visited the tomb of the apostle Santiago.

During these days, the group has not only carried out the daily stages but has also taken the opportunity to make tourist visits in the various enclaves through which the Portuguese Way of Saint James crosses. The tourist visit to the historic center of Tui, Pontevedra and Santiago de Compostela stands out, as well as the visit and lunch at the Pazo de Faramello and the night visit to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, which left a good memory. It was on this last visit that the group was able to contemplate works of art such as the recently restored Pórtico de la Gloria by master Mateo, as well as enter other locations beyond the reach of visitors, such as the main altar, the crypt or the upper gallery. of the transept of the Cathedral.

With this trip, the objective of the Association of arriving in Holy Jacobean Year to visit the tomb of the apostle Santiago is fulfilled.
