Gladbach came yesterday in the 3rd test to their 3rd victory: After the successes at RW Essen (4:2) and 1860 Munich (6:0) there was an easy 5:2 against third division team Viktoria Köln.
Florian Neuhaus (40′), Jonas Hofmann (58′), Lars Stindl (61′), Joe Scally (72′) and Hofmann again with a penalty (87′) scored for Borussia.
But much more interesting: Breel Embolo (25) was no longer part of the test!
The striker, who had been training with the team this morning, didn’t want to risk any injury – Embolo is scheduled to fly to Monaco today for a medical check-up.
If the Swiss passes the investigation, nothing stands in the way of a transfer – and Borussia would collect around 12 million euros.
Embolo came from Schalke in 2019 for 11 million euros. Last season, the Swiss player set a new personal best in Gladbach – he hadn’t scored nine goals in a Bundesliga season before.
There is a reason why Gladbach was able to achieve such a high transfer fee for Embolo (according to transfermarkt.de, it has a market value of 15 million euros): Borussia could have extended the contract by a further year until 2023 – and thus a good negotiating position with the French.
