Standard and AA Gent opened the competition with a 2-2 draw. In retrospect, there was something to be said about the arbitration.
There was already a possible penalty for Ghent in the first half after Emond’s hand game on a free kick by Sven Kums (read more about it HERE).
But in the final minute there was another bizarre moment. In a duel, Arnaud Bodart simply knocked out Jordan Torunarigha with an uppercut.
No penalty kick
Standard’s goalie did not touch the ball, but Visser and VAR did not give a penalty for the entire phase.
Torunarigha was taken away on a stretcher and transferred to a hospital near Liège in the meantime.
