Wimbledon semi-finalist Tatjana Maria (Bad Saulgau) has canceled her first appearance on the WTA tour after her coup at the All England Club. The 34-year-old did not appear in her first round match at the clay court tournament in Lausanne on Wednesday for initially unknown reasons. Her opponent, the French Leolia Jeanjean, is without a fight against her compatriot Caroline Garcia in the round of 16.

At the weekend Maria had won the German championship title in tennis with her Bundesliga club TC Bredeney from Essen. Maria did not play two days after losing to Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur in the semi-finals in London, but supported her team on the spot.

From a German perspective, Wimbledon quarter-finalist Jule Niemeier (Dortmund) and 20-year-old Eva Lys from Hamburg are still in the running in Lausanne. Both fight in a direct duel for the quarter-finals on Thursday.
