Saint-Denis: a fan of the kimono

With a track record as long as your arm, Maxime Maurrus could not remain anonymous. Living in Saint-Denis, he put on his first kimono at the age of 5 on the tatami mats of Saissac with Claudie Delmas. Since then, he has made his merry way. Now 19 years old, he is an unconditional follower of Brazilian jiu-jitsu. The athlete is accumulating titles and has set himself parallel goals for the 2022-2023 season, to obtain his sports nutrition coach diploma, that of Taïso judo, self-defense and participate in national and international Judo competitions. What are the particularities of Brazilian jiu-jitsu?

It’s a combat sport, we first seek submission on the opponent’s upper or lower body parts, or else we have to collect points. It’s regulated, but we have a certain freedom compared to judo for example. We have more latitude during the fight.

How did you come to this discipline?

At the Budo club in Carcassonne, by my teacher, Adrien Pavia. In fact, I got hooked right away, I’ve been doing Brazilian jiu-jitsu for six years.

What category are you in?

I’m in senior adults under 64 kg.

Your track record?

French champion of Brazilian jiu-jitsu in 2018 ; vice-champion of France in 2019 then in Newaza on the 3rd step in the French junior and senior championships ; French junior champion in 2019 and vice-champion of France cadets in 2018.

Your goals?

To continue in the high level, to arrive fifth black belt, it is my main objective, to compete in the biggest competitions, world championships, etc And start teaching. I am a judo teacher and I want to get involved in teaching Brazilian jiu-jitsu, I have to pass my diploma at the end of June. In addition, I am starting training in sports nutrition, to achieve a complete sports training.
