Most of the teams in the 1st Baseball Bundesliga are based in large cities, which, in addition to the sporting setup, are also attractive to players from Germany and abroad because of the good educational opportunities, optimal transport connections and many leisure and cultural activities.

But in addition to the big cities like Berlin, Cologne, Munich and Hamburg, a small community from northern Lower Saxony has been proving its stability in the German baseball landscape for over 30 years.

Dohren is located northwest of the Lüneburg Heath Nature Park. The municipality belongs to the Tostedt municipality and has 1248 inhabitants (Stand: 31.12.2021).

In 1990, the Jungdohrener founded the Wild Farmers. Inspired by the baseball comedy ‘The Cleveland Indians’, they started their first attempts with wooden clubs and full-face helmets. But a short time later, the founding fathers got serious, joined SV Dohren and took part in the game operations of the Landesliga Hamburg as early as 1991. A founding member – Bernd Sievers – has remained true to his roots and is still active in the club today as a player, coach and division manager.

The Wild Farmers’ success story reached a milestone in 2009, when the 1st team finished second in the 2nd Bundesliga and secured direct promotion to the 1st Bundesliga North.

After a short trip back to the 2nd Bundesliga (2015-2016), the team has since remained firmly in the 1st Baseball Bundesliga.

In 2020, the Wild Farmers turned 30 years old. Unfortunately, the big party had to be canceled for the time being due to the pandemic situation. But the people from Dohren now want to catch up:

Next Saturday, July 2nd, 2022, the party is on. In addition to the home game of the 1st men against the Dortmund Wanderers from 1 p.m., there are various activities on the Ballpark DC. If the weather is good, a ‘Slip & Slide’ for children is planned. After the game day, the Wild Farmers want to sit together with fans, players and friends in the style of a midsummer celebration.

A buying tip for all baseball historians:
For the 20th anniversary, the Dohren Wild Farmers published a 632-page chronicle of the club’s history. The chronicle is available at a special price of €15 from the Wild Farmers website.
