Paris Saint-Germain and Mauricio Pochettino are still negotiating their separation. The discussions are blocked on results bonuses claimed by the Argentine coach and his staff.
Pochettino is still PSG manager
Christophe Galtier must wait. While the 55-year-old technician is expected at Paris Saint-Germain after his replacement by Lucien Favre Nice on Monday, Mauricio Pochettino is still the coach of the capital club. Because the Argentinian has not yet reached an agreement with the Parisian management to finalize their separation, which is essential before formalizing the arrival of the new coach.
Pochettino claims bounties
According to L’Equipe, discussions between Pochettino and PSG are blocking bonuses. Concretely, the Parisian decision-makers have agreed to pay the salaries for the last year of the contract for Poche and his four departing assistants. This corresponds to an estimated sum of 15 million euros. However, they have not yet accepted another request from the coach and his staff: the payment of part of the results bonuses for… the 2022-2023 season!
Clearly, Pochettino and his staff want bonuses that they could have received next season by staying at the club. They believe that given the history of PSG in these competitions , it is a shortfall. This vision is not shared by PSG, which logically considers that the former Tottenham coach has no reason to be paid for results he has not obtained. This corresponds to a sum of approximately 2 million euros.
An agreement with Galtier and Nice
The situation should unblock over the next few days. Because Paris SG wishes to formalize the arrival of its new coach before the resumption of training next Monday. He has already agreed with Galtier, on a two-year contract plus an optional year, and with Nice, for a severance package of between 5 and 8 million euros depending on the sources. The case should therefore be settled by the end of the week.
