Boxing: Sherif Lawal, 29, died after a knockout in his first professional fight

A tragedy has struck the world of boxing. Promoters Warren Boxing Management announced in a press release the death of Sherif Lawal. Aged 29, this British boxer was knocked out this Sunday, during his first professional middleweight fight in London.

“Unfortunately, during Sherif’s fight, he collapsed, and despite the efforts of paramedics, he was later pronounced dead,” the organizers said in their press release, as relayed West France. Emergency services intervened in the ring to try to resuscitate the young boxer. Without ever achieving it.

Rushed to hospital

Sherif Lawal’s body was then rushed to the hospital. But, once there, the medical staff were not able to resuscitate the Briton either. The cause of his death was a blow to the temple.

It was in the fourth round that the boxer collapsed, after suffering a terrible blow from his opponent, the Portuguese Malam Varela. A total of six rounds were scheduled at the Harrow Leisure Center in London. The fight between the two men was the first on the evening’s schedule. The rest of the event was canceled after Sherif Lawal was evacuated.
