Pirates Show Off Their Defensive Skills With Disastrous Sequence Giving Away Cardinals Free Run

The Pittsburgh Pirates visited the St. Louis Cardinals Tuesday for an afternoon of baseball. Things got weird for the visiting side at the end of the fourth quarter and it’s their own fault.

Opening the inning, Pittsburgh shortstop Diego Castillo spotted the Cardinals’ two men on base with two penalties at back-to-back spots. St. Louis then loaded the bases and the Pirates got two outs before Paul Goldschmidt grounded in the middle. At this point, the pirates collectively forgot how to play baseball.

Whatever that was ended the inning, but not before the Cardinals were overrun. Officially, it was settled as a 6-4-2-5-6-2 fielder’s choice. That somehow ended in a scored run. Remarkable stuff, really.

Here are Castillo’s two mistakes that started it all. It neatly sums up the afternoon for his team and really the entire season for the franchise.

Nothing beats regular-season afternoon MLB action, right?
