Mexico gets its ticket to the 2022 U-23 Baseball World Cup

Mexico is ranked eighth in the world competition, according to the official website of the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC).

Of the four victories that the Mexican Baseball Team has in the championship, two of them were achieved by super knockout (15 runs or more before the fourth inning) against teams from Argentina and Nicaragua.

“I think that the work that is being done has gone from less to more, we do all of this on behalf of each of the LMB clubs, and of Mexican baseball,” said Enrique ‘Che’ Reyes, manager of the National Team. .

Mexico has participated in each of the first five editions of the championship, taking an impressive turn from finishing in last place in the 2014 championship to claiming the title in 2018. In the latest version, held in Sonora during 2021, the National Team Mexican won the silver medal.

Both in obtaining the title, as well as in the silver medal, ‘Che’ Reyes has been the team’s driver.

The championship obtained in Barranquilla 2018 was the first for a Mexican team in the discipline in its entire history.

“We are very proud, and I think we made the right decision with each of these 22 players, as well as the coaching staff,” said Patricio Pérez, General Manager of the National Team. “We are very grateful to the LMB clubs, who made a sacrifice to loan their players in full competition; we are all very proud of this achievement, and now, to seek our third consecutive World Cup final”, he added.

The Mexican National Team will still hold two duels of the qualifying round against Puerto Rico and Cuba on June 15 and 16 to play the semifinals next Saturday the 18th. In case of winning the match, they would be playing the final next Sunday the 19th to reach to the U23 Baseball World Cup as the champion of the Pan American tournament.
