Italy’s standard-bearer boy at the European Paralympic Games is from Calabria

The sprinter Francesco Imperio he was appointed flag bearer of Italy ai Paralympic European Games Youth in progress a Pajulahtiin Finland, until July 4th.
At the Opening ceremony scheduled for tomorrow 30 June at Pajulahti Hall, the athlete from Cosenza will march with the Italian flag at the head of the blue delegation of the Italian Paralympic Committee, made up of 60 other athletes representing seven disciplines: Paralympic athletics, swimming, bowling, judo, showdown, basketball in a wheelchair and table tennis.

Imperio, born in 2008, amputated two days after birth following a complication from twin birth, approaches racing two years ago, training on the track with the prosthesis together with able-bodied children.

The 14-year-old Calabrian T64 from Montalto Uffugo will be one of the first Azzurrini to take the field among the Under 17s on Friday 1 in the 100 meters merged with the T37-38 categories. The goal is to improve the personal best of 13.50 recorded in Syracuse this year.
