Indians fall in semis

Juarez City.- The men’s association soccer team of the UACJ fell in the semifinals of the Universiade this Wednesday afternoon at the Benito Juárez Olympic Stadium. The Indians were beaten 2-0 by the Tecnológico de Monterrey (ITESM MTY) and will now look for third place this Thursday morning to climb to the podium for the second consecutive time in this national university fair.

“Sad for the result, but happy for the dedication of the boys and for that heart that they leave in each game, this is how it is, but we must not bow our heads,” said Miguel Hernández, UACJ coach.

In the first half of Wednesday’s game, the Indians had few scoring options. The team from Monterrey had more possession of the ball and had more offensive attempts in search of opening the scoring.

“We can’t be giving away early times, we can’t make mistakes in these games,” added the Indians coach.

Los Borregos scored the first goal in the 38th minute after a cross from the left wing that Diego González simply pushed to send it to the back of the goal.

In the second half, the Juarense team came out determined to try to equalize the score. The Indians managed to move the game to the rival area, but the only thing missing was the shots on goal and the forcefulness to achieve it.

The second goal of the Monterrey team was the work of Jorge Castañeda at minute 75; the Borregos player simply pushed the ball after the ball was left on the goal line by a rebound on a corner kick play.

This second goal froze the fans that attended the Benito Juárez Olympic and also the UACJ team, who had little ability to react and could not discount the score.

The Indians will now face the Universidad Panamericana Bonaterra (UP Bonaterra) of Aguascalientes for the bronze medal, a match that will be played at 11:00 am on the field of the UACJ Complex.

In the last National Universiade, in Mérida 2019, the UACJ won silver after losing 1-0 against UNAM; This was the first, and at the moment the only one, that the University of Juarez won in this discipline.
