Korea Confirms 12 Players for Paris Olympics Badminton Events

Members of the Korean national badminton team for the 2024 Paris Olympics have been confirmed, including Ahn Se-young (women’s singles) and Baek Ha-na and Lee So-hee (women’s doubles).

A total of 12 Korean players were included in the badminton entry list (173 players) for the Paris Olympics announced by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) on the 14th. In particular, women’s singles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles secured 2 quotas for each event. In the women’s singles, world No. 1 Ahn Se-young and 13th-ranked Kim Ga-eun qualified to participate, while in women’s doubles, world No. 2 Baek Ha-na and Lee So-hee, No. 6 Kim So-young and Gong Hee-yong, and mixed doubles Seo Seung-jae and Chae Yu-jeong and Kim Won-ho and Jeong Na-eun also qualified to participate.

Seo Seung-jae is ranked second in the world with Kang Min-hyuk in men’s doubles and is the only member of the Korean badminton team to compete in two events. In the men’s singles, Jeon Hyuk-jin is the only Korean player to compete.

Korean badminton, which has won 6 gold medals, 7 silver medals, and 7 bronze medals in previous Olympics, is aiming for its first gold medal in 16 years since Lee Yong-dae and Lee Hyo-jung in mixed doubles at the 2008 Beijing Games. At the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, the previous competition, Kim So-young and Kong Hee-yong won a bronze medal in women’s doubles.
