Ime Udoka awaits reinforcement on the Celtics bench

During the Finals against the Warriors, Ime Udoka wasn’t really helped by his bench. He mostly used three substitutes (Grant Williams, Payton Pritchard, Derrick White) in each game and this trio only averaged 16.7 points.

The coach expected more in this series, but the contribution was too meager to resist the “second unit” of Steve Kerr. It is therefore logical that he wants to have more weapons on his bench for next season.

“Great players attract other great players”

“Having consistent scoring off the bench is an essential key”he confirms to Mass Live. “We will look at names that are available and see if it could fit. We have things to correct. What stands out from the Finals is our bench which could be consolidated with a veteran, with old ones. Our youngsters, Williams, Pritchard, White have grown this season, but we need more. »

Will the Boston franchise have the means to attract a solid scorer to make him a reliable sixth man in the playoffs? For Udoka, the route to the Finals is a strong argument.

“Great players attract other great players, who talk to each other during the season and the offseason”he says, always for Mass Live. “If we observe our season as well as the progress of our young people, it is attractive for the other players. As a coach, I have connections in the league and that’s an advantage too. »

Note that, according to our colleagues from SNY.tv, the Celtics would be one of the teams interested in the arrival of Alec Burks. A player with an offensive profile, who averaged 12.1 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.7 assists in the last two seasons with the Knicks (41% at 3-pts). Soon to be 31 years old, he is due to receive 10 million dollars in 2022/23 and he has a “team option” of 10.5 million dollars in 2023/24.
