Zizou Bergs (146)
Jack Draper (94)

Zizou Bergs (ATP-146) has lost his first match on the grass of Wimbledon. The Briton Jack Draper (ATP-94) was too strong for our compatriot in three sets for his own audience, who at times showed himself with great tennis.

There was little sign of stress at Zizou Bergs. From the start, he showed why he was on the Wimbledon main draw. However, that did not lead to a break chance for the Belgian, which his opponent decorated and cashed in: 4-6.

Same story in set 2. Bergs followed Jack Draper’s pace on his own service games, but he had no answer against the Brit’s fierce serves. After a nice rally, the home player pulled the sheet for a second time.

A sacrifice for our fighting compatriot. Draper steamed on, Bergs was immediately assigned to chase. Until he got and converted his first break chance at 2-3 in the third set. A welcome adrenaline rush for the Belgian.

Zizou Bergs forced a tiebreak in set 3, but there he had to acknowledge his superiority in his opponent. The Belgian leaves his first Wimbledon tournament with his head held high.

Bergs: “I played a great game”

“I was up against a player who was just a little bit better today,” said Zizou Bergs. “He was very consistent and then you have to rise above yourself, but that was not the case today.”

“I did play a great game and I looked for solutions. It felt very close to me. I just couldn’t get the third set, otherwise we would have had another game.”

“How do I look back? Wimbledon is fantastic, it is the most beautiful grand slam tournament. I have gained a lot of confidence in myself. I believe in my trajectory and hope to consistently perform at a high level within two years.”

  1. 5 p.m. 43. Same story in second set. Zizou Bergs and Jack Draper don’t give each other many break opportunities. Until 4-4, the Belgian can dominate his service game, but then the Brit switched up a gear. After a nice rally, Draper went through Bergs’ service game. Our compatriot put up some resistance and went to 30-0 in the next game. But then the mistakes piled up, result: 6-4 for a second time. †
