Campus Promete disappears and gives up its place in the Women’s League to Clarinos

Ehe Campus Promete, which in the last three seasons has competed in the Women’s League, announced this Wednesday its disappearance and the transfer of its structure to a new entity, called Unibasket Logroño (UBL), which will compete in the Women’s League 2, the third Spanish basketball competition, while Clarinos Tenerife will take their place.

The sports coordinator of the new club, David Martín, announced the details of the operation this Wednesday, in an act in which the president of the entity, Paula Ballvé, former player and leader of Campus Promete, participated.

This club belonged to the structure of the Promete Foundation, a non-profit entity led until 2019 by businessman Luis Cacho, focused on carrying out educational, cultural and sports activities; This businessman left the entity when he was appointed counselor of the Riojan Government and did not return to it despite being dismissed in 2020.

In addition, the activities of the Foundation were greatly reduced by the pandemic, which is why, finally, the entity has decided to close its projects, including the basketball team.

Within the framework of this decision, it has been decided to cede the rights of the top Spanish competition to Clarinos de Tenerife, who had been relegated and who will make their continuity in the Women’s League official in the coming days.

The Tenerife team’s place in the Challenge League -the second Spanish basketball competition- will be occupied by a team from Melilla, which has agreed to make the change, and the new club, Unibasket Logroño, will move on to the Women’s League 2, in which was the Melilla team.

This club, its managers have affirmed, will continue with the sports structure of Campus Promete, which includes a residence for players, and a junior and another cadet team, which this season have finished the Spanish championships of their categories among the 8 best in Spain .

The club’s leaders have explained that these days they are finalizing the bureaucratic procedures to carry out the changes of places and looking for sponsors for the new project.
