ATP: Rafael Nadal will play at Wimbledon, thinks his uncle Toni Nadal

STUTTGART, Germany — Toni Nadal thinks his nephew Rafael will be able to play at Wimbledon, even though his foot is still under treatment.

“Yes, Rafael is going to play at Wimbledon,” said Toni Nadal, still very close to his nephew, on the sidelines of the ATP tournament in Stuttgart. “If he has a small chance, he will play”.

“When we spoke yesterday (Friday) he told me it was much better, he wants to train,” said the Mallorcan’s uncle, who claims the 36-year-old – who won the week last his 14th Roland-Garros tournament – will resume the racket next week.

Nadal has suffered for years from Müller-Weiss syndrome, a degenerative and incurable disease which is characterized by the deformation of one of the bones of the foot.

The Spanish champion revealed that he had to play the Roland-Garros final with an anesthetized foot but that he was not ready to repeat the experience at Wimbledon.
