Many a fan might be disappointed if they had planned to attend a VfL Wolfsburg training session over the next two days. While Niko Kovac and his protégés presented themselves to the spectators in two sessions on the first day of preparation, the new coach draws the curtain on Thursday (two sessions) and Friday (one session) – secret training five weeks before the first competitive game!

“I’m always ambitious, always want to win and be successful,” Kovac once said about himself. It’s hard to believe, however, that the coach fears prying eyes from the trainers of the Veltins selection, against whom his team will play the first pre-season test in Fallersleben on Saturday at 6 p.m. A diverse team of amateur footballers.

Mixed squad for the first test

VfL, on the other hand, will also compete with a mixed squad. In addition to 17 professionals, eight young players started training on Wednesday, which was quite relaxed on the first day – a yoga session was on the program at the end. “I think,” says Maximilian Arnold, “the next few days will be a bit different.”

Exhausting – and without fans. Who only get to see their darlings again on Saturday. Then Bartosz Bialek, Micky van de Ven and Kilian Fischer, the first newcomer, will also be there.
