Sports day for the mayor of Sainte-Julie, Mario Lemay, because he threw balls in the games of skill during the Fête au Vieux-Village on June 4, then he performed the ceremonial throw of the game which officially inaugurated the new synthetic baseball field as well as Phase I of the Desrochers Park improvement work.
This newly revamped park is worth a look, especially since it’s a little less well-known than other green spaces. It is located at the bottom of the slope of Montée Sainte-Julie and runs along the large hillside. It is to be discovered for those who do not know it.
It should be noted that the first phase of this overall project represents an investment of $1,700,000 and, during the work, the baseball field was reoriented and enlarged in order to accommodate new categories. Shelters for players and markers have been fitted out to improve their comfort. For those wishing to practice their swing, batting cages have been added. The field was also improved by installing a synthetic infield, a scoreboard, natural stone bleachers and LED lighting.
It should be noted that, during the next phases, accessibility and the addition of sports and recreational equipment will be the priorities. Among the projects, there is the softening of the slope, the construction of a staircase, the installation of playgrounds for children from 18 months to 12 years, the realization of a “Pumptrack”, the addition of a second volleyball court and expansion of the parking area.
