Tomás Etcheverry, one step away from the main draw in Lyon

Argentine Tomás Etcheverry (90th) made his debut with victory in the preliminary phase of the ATP 250 in Lyon. After closing his tour in Challenger tournaments throughout the American continent, he won against the French Mayeul Darras 6-4 and 6-2 and will go for the pass to the main draw.

On the eve of the start of qualifying for the second Grand Slam of the season, Roland Garros, many of the South American representatives start their preparation on European brick dust. As is the case of the 22-year-old from La Plata – champion in Concepción and finalist in Mexico City – who arrives at the Lyon event after crossing the ocean with the hope of playing in a main draw at the ATP level for the fifth time this year. He did it in Australia a few months ago, then in Córdoba, Buenos Aires and, finally, in Santiago.

After displaying his tennis for an hour and 35 minutes of play against the 23-year-old local, he advanced to the second instance of the table that has him as the second favorite. In search of the decisive pass, he will face the American Michael Mmoh (181°).

Already in the main draw, his compatriots Sebastián Báez (37th), Francisco Cerúndolo (49th) and Federico Coria (55th) are waiting.
