the Wallis and Futuna delegation has 35 people

The 11th edition of the Pacific mini-games will take place in Saipan in the Northern Mariana Islands from June 17 to 25. The Wallis and Futuna Islands will be represented by a delegation of 35 people, authorities and athletes, in 3 disciplines.

Postponed since last year due to the covid pandemic, the Pacific mini-games will take place this year from June 17 to 25 in Saipan in the Northern Mariana Islands.

21 countries and territories will participate in this 11th edition, including Wallis and Futuna. Our islands will be represented by a delegation of 35 people, authorities and athletes.

Initially, the territory was to be represented in 6 disciplines, weightlifting, athletics, tennis, badminton, beach volleyball and rowing. Then the number went down to 4 due to a problem of athletes, then finally Wallis and Futuna will only be present in 3 sports, beach volleyball, badminton and rowing.

For rowing, a single men’s team made up of 14 rowers and their coach will take part in 5 races. 3 speed races V1, V6 and V12, and 2 long distance races V1 and V6. For 3 months, the athletes have been training tirelessly for these games.

As a reminder, the host country offers 9 disciplines: athletics, badminton, baseball, beach volleyball, golf, weightlifting, tennis, triathlon and va’a.

Given the only weekly rotation between the territory and New Caledonia, the delegation will fly on June 9 for Caledonia. They will take the charter flight with the Caillou and Vanuatu delegation on June 14.
