Andreas Seppi will not take part in the French Open from May 22nd to June 5th. The man from Kaltern was eliminated on Monday afternoon in the first qualifying round against the Italian Giulio Zeppieri (ATP 215th) after two sets 3: 6, 4: 6. This is the end of Seppi’s impressive Grand Slam series.

Only two breaks were enough for the 20-year-old to win against the experienced Seppi. In the first set, the two gave nothing until the score of 3:2 for Zeppieri, before Seppi, who was born in Rome, took the serve, put it to 4:2 and then put the set win in dry cloths without risk.

A similar picture could also be seen in the second set: Both brought their serves through, with Zeppieri in particular striking with a merciless effectiveness. The preliminary decision only came when the score was 4:4: Seppi made a mistake, Zeppieri was there and used the first breakball of the second set to lead 5:4. The game was over just a few minutes later when Zeppieri converted his first match point to the final score.

66 Grand Slams in Folge

This is the end of an unbelievable, almost legendary series for Andreas Seppi. The man from Kaltern took part in a whopping 66 Grand Slam tournaments in a row without missing a single one. Since Wimbledon 2005, the man from Caldaro has always been in the main draw and has the third-longest Grand Slam series in all of tennis. Only Spaniards Feliciano Lopez and Fernando Verdasco have more to show for themselves.

For Seppi, who became a father for the second time a month ago, the lawn tournaments before the Grand Slam classic Wimbledon are expected to continue.
