Schalke 04: Six truths about the promoted team – an analysis – Bundesliga

Schalke’s last goal came eight minutes after the final whistle. At 10:34 p.m., the box in front of the north curve collapsed under the weight of a few fans sitting on the crossbar. At that point, goalscorer Simon Terodde (34/29 goals this season) had long since broken all dams…

Snot and water, like the royal blue cult figures Charly Neumann and Rudi Assauer once did, the Ballermann vom Kohlenpott finally howled his way into the hearts of the fans…

pyro. place storm. Party. With the return of the Bundesliga, Schalke are getting their pride back! No more chaos and intrigue club that everyone laughs at! S04 has completely reinvented itself in record time. A resurrection that has many reasons.

The Great Ascension Analysis. Here are six truths about Schalke…

Büskens is coach of the year!

Not Flick, Nagelsmann or Rose, Mike Büskens (54) is the coach of the year. Seven games, six wins (2.57 points on average) – promotion! Hardly anyone lives Schalke more and more emotionally than Eurofighter Büskens. He has formed real promotion fighters from an only moderately talented squad. Players who believe in themselves to the last second and push their limits. “Schalke is the hottest club in the world” – with Büskens the fans once again believe in one of their favorite battle songs.

Terodde has to go to the World Cup!

No German professional striker promises a higher goal guarantee than Simon Terodde (251 career goals). How often has the national team lacked a super joker, and this is exactly the role the Bocholter native should play at the Winter World Cup in Qatar. Substitute, snap, win, done. With bench players like Sané, national coach Hansi Flick also runs a much greater risk of unrest than with Terodde…

Schalke’s greatest asset remains the fans!

One thing is certain: Without its supporters (and Terodde, of course), the Pott-Klub would never have made it back to the Bundesliga. The return of fans after the Corona Geisterspiel period was vital for Schalke and acted as a success booster for the club. The 2-1 victory in Sandhausen, when 10,000 blue and whites roared their team to the top of the league, is an example of this. The twisted match point final against St. Pauli (3:2 after 0:2) is also an example of this. Loud, passionate and loyal. Schalke’s greatest asset remains the fans…

Gazprom separation was the best signal!

Rarely in its history has Schalke shown more attitude! The quick separation from the Russian blood money sponsor Gazprom immediately after the beginning of the war had a liberating signal effect on the club and the environment. Freed from the shackles of the past, Schalke created a healthy basis for a sustainable economic reorientation in the first place. At the same time, the long-lost trust of the supporters was regained through the consistent step.

Knäbel and Schröder are the rise architects!

More officials than speakers. Less show, more performance. With sports director Peter Knäbel (55) and sports director Rouven Schröder (46), Schalke has found a steady hand after decades of mismanagement. With a mini-budget of 20 million euros, they formed a promotion team. Around 50 transfers were necessary after the crash into the 2nd division. Her motto: talk less, work harder. Next they need to re-establish Schalke in the Bundesliga. Further transfers are urgently needed: starting with the wobbly goalkeeper Martin Fraisl (28), the club will have to replace up to ten squad positions in order to remain competitive.

Schalke remains a savings club!

With debts still at EUR 183.5 million, the reduction of legacy assets from the era of Clemens Tönnies (65) and Peter Peters (59) is still the most difficult task for CFO Christina Rühl-Hamers (45) and colleagues. Clever austerity measures and creative transfers will therefore also determine actions in the coming years and limit Schalke’s opportunities. The promotion to the Bundesliga relaxes the situation. Players who expect big salaries in the millions are still in the wrong place in Gelsenkirchen.

The hardest currency at Schalke has been called pride again since the night of promotion.
