There were probably sighs of relief in Dortmund, Wolfsburg and Gelsenkirchen when news of Robert Lewandowski’s plans broke. Borussia, VfL and Schalke 04 are the German clubs that suffered the most damage from the centre-forward. Lewandowski has missed 27 goals over the years for BVB, 25 for VfL (once even five in a single evening), and Schalke have only played one game in 13 matches since 2016 against Bayern in which Lewandowski did not score a goal – when he exceptionally had to take a break.
