In the early hours of May 11, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver released a statement regarding the death of Bob Lanier. The official press release revealed that Bob had died after a brief illness; He was surrounded by his family and loved ones.

“Bob Lanier was a Hall of Famer and one of the most talented centers in NBA history, but his impact on the league far exceeded what he achieved on the court,” said NBA Commissioner Adam Silver.
