Medals for us

Last weekend, a delegation with 40 judokas from Santa Cruz and as many companions were in Villa Carlos Paz, Córdoba. The first, of course, to compete in what was the first official date of the season. The one that was disputed was the Opening National Championship. It is worth remembering that this contest is organized and supervised by the Argentine Judo Confederation (CAJ).

Fifteen medals added, in total, the provincial representative. Three of these were obtained by athletes from Río Gallegos. The pupils of Second Dan José Chinchilla who returned with their medal were Joaquina Nieto and Brian Bravo. The first participated in two different categories. In Women’s Youth (Under 70 Kilos), the capital finished third. In Senior, she had a better performance. She made the podium again, but this time she was placed one step higher.

Bravo’s was just as good. This one finished second in KIU Graduated (Under 55 kilos). The other Riogalleguense who was part of the delegation was Gonzalo Chinchilla. This only lacked a medal to crown what was also a great championship. Contest in which he was able to add experience and compete on equal terms with the rest of the judokas, of a high level by the way, in our country. In the next one, Chichilla (fifth this time) will go for revenge. Nieto and Bravo, for more and new conquests.

The second competition this year, the Torneo Centro República, is still a long way off the calendar. Our athletes then have plenty of time to prepare. The upcoming contest will only be held in August. It could be again in Villa Carlos Paz, although official confirmation of this is still awaited. The one that is not so clear, yet, is the day with which judo will end its competitive year. It will be in one of the last months of this 2022. The venue is also in doubt. It could be somewhere in Patagonia, according to the CAJ’s own intentions.
