Max Scherzer refuses to let fan throw first pitch before Mets lose to Mariners

The New York Mets hosted the Seattle Mariners at CitiField on Friday night. Seattle outplayed the home team 2-1, and Mets starter Max Scherzer didn’t deserve a decision after conceding a run in seven innings. He also rushed to the mound before the first inning, taking the mound to make a few extra warm-up throws and refusing to leave the mound to allow a fan to throw the ceremonial first throw.

I’m sure there are a lot of people out there who are in love with this performative hardo stuff where Scherzer is in such a zone in game 13 of

is that he blocks out every possible distraction. Even though this “distraction” happens every day before every single Major League Baseball game.

Who knows who that fan was, but he was probably very excited to kick out the first pitch. Of course, that’s nothing for a top division club like Scherzer, but for a normal person it was an incredibly unique opportunity.
